Vol. 101 No. 9

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Housing Scheme for Kerry.

asked the Minister for Local Government and Public Health if he is aware that the arrears of rent due by tenants of labourers' cottages in Kerry, amounted, in September, 1942, to approximately £16,732, and that the arrears due, at the present time, total approximately £7,883; and whether, in view of the improved position of the cottage rent collection, he will now consider a housing scheme for Kerry, particularly for the town of Caherciveen, where only four cottages have been built by the Kerry County Council during the past 30 years, and where there are practically no arrears of cottage rents.

I am aware that the position in regard to the arrears of rent due by tenants to labourers' cottages in Kerry is as stated in the question. I understand that a scheme for the erection of 1,700 cottages has been prepared and that the needs of the town of Caherciveen have been included. The scheme has not yet been submitted to me.
