Vol. 101 No. 19

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Consolidating National Health Insurance Acts.

asked the Minister for Local Government and Public Health if he will be prepared to introduce legislation so as to consolidate the National Health Insurance Acts; and thereby make the position clearer and more secure for employers and employees.

Consolidation of the National Health Insurance Acts would neither make the position clearer nor more secure for employees, as suggested by the Deputy. In any event, a review of all the social services will be one of the first tasks of the Minister in charge of the new Department which, as the House has been informed, is to be set up to deal with such services as a whole. Pending this review, it would be premature to take the action suggested in the question.
