Vol. 101 No. 19

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Petrol for Private Haulage Contractors.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce if he will state the amount of petrol at present allocated to three-ton and five-ton lorries operated by Córas Iompair Éireann; and if he will be prepared to make similar allocations of petrol to private haulage contractors.

Allowances of petrol are not issued by my Department in respect of individual vehicles operated by Córas Iompair Éireann. A bulk allocation is made to the company.

If the allowances of petrol granted to other hauliers holding licences under the Transport Act for the carriage of goods were related to the average monthly allowance of petrol used in vehicles operated by Córas Iompair Éireann it would involve a reduction of the present allowances to private hauliers. I am not prepared to adopt this suggestion.
