Vol. 101 No. 19

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Shortage of Matches.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce whether he is aware of the present shortage of matches; and what steps he is taking to ensure a reasonable supply of matches for domestic use.

I am aware that, owing to the shortage of certain necessary raw materials, the available supplies of matches are not sufficient to meet full requirements. Matches are being distributed through the usual trade channels, and I am of opinion that the quantities available, which represent about 85 per cent. of requirements, provide a reasonable supply in present circumstances for domestic use.
