Vol. 101 No. 19

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Turf Camp Catering Arrangements.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce whether he is aware that considerable dissatisfaction exists among the turf workers at Cushina Camp, Portarlington, arising out of the unsatisfactory arrangements for catering and serving of food; that the accommodation and equipment available for catering purposes are inadequate; that no improvement in the quality or quantity of tea served has been made following upon the recent increase in the tea ration; and whether, having regard to the fact that workers at the camp have often to spend as much as 10/- a week, out of average earnings of £2, to supplement their diet, he will cause an investigation to be held into the catering arrangements at this camp, with a view to the provision of improved facilities.

The arrangements for catering and for service of food at the camp to which the Deputy refers have been entrusted to Bórd na Móna, and any representations which the workers have to make regarding these arrangements should be made to the board.
