Vol. 102 No. 2

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Electricity Supply Board Coal Supplies.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce if he will state to what extent, if any, coal has been made available to the Electricity Supply Board, in order that the rationing of electricity to private users will be somewhat alleviated.

Coal is available to the Electricity Supply Board to the extent of their full plant capacity.

Can the Parliamentary Secretary say if water is available to their full plant capacity at present?

Everybody knows that it is not.

It is obvious to everybody except the people whose electricity is cut down.

Am I to understand that coal is available to the Electricity Supply Board to the extent of their capacity?

Yes, the full extent.

And am I to take it that the position which existed before, in which the board had not sufficient coal, has now been overcome and that extra current will be available?

The shortage of electricity is due to the fact that water supplies are inadequate, and, consequently, there is a greater demand for electricity from the Pigeon House.

In that connection, can the Parliamentary Secretary say whether, in view of such a scarcity, it is reasonable to illuminate the Bovril sign in Grafton Street when all I can get is 1.5 units per day to illuminate my house?

Is the Parliamentary Secretary aware that about this time last year the reason given for the shortage of electricity was the fact that sufficient coal was not available?

That may be, but coal is available at present to their full plant capacity?
