Vol. 102 No. 4

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Wages of Land Commission Workers.

asked the Minister for Lands if it is proposed to increase the wages of Land Commission workers at an early date; and if so, when he expects to be in a position to announce the increased rates of pay for such workers.

Following the promulgation of the Agricultural Wages (Minimum Rates) (No. 2) Order, 1946, the question of revising the rates of wages payable to Land Commission labourers has been under consideration. A decision in the matter will, it is expected, be reached at an early date.

asked the Minister for Lands if he will state the number of men employed by his Department in State forests in Laoighis and in Offaly; and the rates of wages paid to such workers.

As some State forests include land in more than one county it is not practicable to state the precise number of forestry labourers in each of the Counties of Laoighis and Offaly, but the approximate numbers employed at present are: In Laoighis, 91; in Offaly, 36. The rate of wages recently sanctioned for these workmen is £2 3s. per week.
