Vol. 102 No. 4

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Division of Offaly Estate.

asked the Minister for Lands if he will state what action it is proposed to take in connection with the claims of local small holders, cottage tenants and old I.R.A. in the area, for portions of the lands of Mr. James Langford at Roskeen, Geashill, Offaly, in view of the congestion existing in the area; and whether, having regard to the fact that the owner resides in England and has the holding set in conacre, he will cause an immediate inspection of this farm with a view to arranging for the division of same among local deserving applicants.

I would refer the Deputy to the reply given him to a similar question in February last. The position is unchanged.

In view of the congestion which exists in this area and the fact that in August, 1940, the Minister's Department informed me that estimates had been submitted to the Land Commission for any consideration which might be possible in the circumstances existing then, and that circumstances have changed since 1940, will he cause immediate inquiries to be made by the Land Commission in the matter as the owner of the land resides in England and the lands are now set by conacre?

The emergency restrictions still apply to this case.
