Vol. 102 No. 9

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Building Proposals.

asked the Minister for Local Government and Public Health if he is now in a position to announce what proposals he has for assisting building undertaken by private enterprise and by local authorities.

The Housing (Amendment) Act, 1946, continues until the 31st March next the present system of grants payable to private persons and public utility societies for the erection and reconstruction of houses. Proposals as to the future scale of assistance for house building by private enterprise are under consideration but I am not at present in a position to announce the details of such proposals.

With regard to the assistance to be provided for the building of houses by local authorities I would refer the Deputy to the statement made by me to the House on the 12th ultimo when introducing my Department's Estimate for the current year.
