Vol. 102 No. 9

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Military Service Pensions.

asked the Minister for Defence if he will arrange to extend the latest date for receiving applications for military service pensions from applicants resident in Northern Ireland, as many eligible persons in that area did not see the advertisements announcing the closing dates, and consequently, did not submit their sworn statements before the date stipulated.

It is not proposed to extend further the latest date for acceptance of applications under the Military Service Pensions Act, 1934.

Is the Minister aware that some of these applications were posted in County Tyrone on the 31st December and that because a Sunday intervened the applications were delayed in transmission? I have a receipt for the registered letter to the Minister. Will the Minister give these men another chance to have their claims investigated?

The date has been extended already on at least 16 occasions and it cannot be extended any further.
