Vol. 102 No. 9

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Repair of Embankments.

asked the Minister for Lands if he will state whether, in cases where, before the passing of the Land Acts, the landlords repaired embankments for tenants, the Land Commission now carry out such repairs in those cases where they accepted such responsibilities.

Mr. Boland

The Land Commission arrange for the execution from time to time of such repairs as may be necessary to embankments maintainable out of funds provided by the former landlords for the administration of which the Land Commission are responsible. The liability of the Land Commission in such cases is limited to the amount of income available from the Maintenance Funds.

asked the Minister for Lands whether his Department has yet decided to carry out the much-needed repairs to the embankments of the Nire River on the Ashtown Estate, near Ballymacarbery, County Waterford.

Mr. Boland

The Land Commission have not yet come to a decision as to what action (if any) they may be able to take towards the repair of the embankments along the Nire River on the Ashtown Estate, Record No. S.4491, County Waterford.
