Vol. 102 No. 9

Order of Business.

It is proposed to take business in the following order: Nos. 6, 2, 3, 4 and 1. There are also two Bills for introduction. They have been circulated in typescript. It is proposed to interrupt the discussion on item No. 6 at 6.30 and to resume on it at 7.30. Between 6.30 and 7.30, Nos. 2, 3, 4 and 1 will be taken.

When is it intended to take item No. 5?

To-morrow.

Will it not be started at all to-day?

Are we to assume that item No. 5 will be taken as first business after Questions to-morrow?

The Deputy may assume that. That assumption is based on the expectation that the business ordered for to-day will be finished to-day.

Assuming that the business ordered for to-day is finished to-day, are we to take it that the only business for to-morrow will be item No. 5?

That is all.

If the business ordered for to-day is not finished by to-day, does that mean that we will not begin item No. 5 to-morrow until the business is finished?

It does not necessarily mean that. The matter would have to be considered in relation to business in the Seanad. It is probable in any event that item No. 5 will be the first business to-morrow.

I would like to ask if that will be so.

If there is any balance remaining over on item No. 6 it will follow No. 5.

I do not want to enter into any binding commitment in that regard. We will endeavour to meet the wishes of the Dáil, but there may be some particular difficulty. It is proposed, if the Dáil adjourns this week, to adjourn until the 23rd October.

Surely item No. 5 ought to get precedence over some of those other items?

No one is disputing its importance. It is a question of arranging the dispatch of business in this House and in the Seanad.

It is one thing to arrange the dispatch of business between the two Houses, and it is another thing to discuss a very important matter. That is a point that should be taken into consideration.
