Vol. 102 No. 9

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - White Bread for Hospitals.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce if he is aware that serious hardship is imposed on many patients in hospitals throughout the country as a result of their inability to use the bread now supplied to them made from flour of an extraction of 90 per cent.; and, if so, if he will consider the desirability of making available for hospitals a supply of white bread.

I am not aware that the position is as stated by the Deputy. Quite apart from the fact that the high extraction is necessary to make the most of the supplies of wheat available, there are practical difficulties in providing special flour for individual concerns.
