Vol. 103 No. 2

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Joynt and Palmers Estate (Mayo).

asked the Minister for Lands if he is aware that there are, in the Straide district of County Mayo on the Joynt and Palmers Estate, ten unoccupied holdings embracing an area of over 220 acres, and that severe congestion exists in this area among the tenants whose valuations range from £1 17s. 0d. to £15 15s. 0d.; and, if so, if he will state whether he proposes to take over those holdings with a view to having them distributed among those congests.

The Land Commission have under consideration the resumption of a number of holdings for the relief of congestion in the Straide district but it is not possible to identify the holdings the Deputy has in mind. If he furnishes further particulars I shall see what can be done to supply him with the information he requires.

May I inquire from the Minister what the officials in the Land Commission office in Castlebar are doing? Would they not be able to supply him with particulars as to derelict and untenanted holdings? Are they merely there as a kind of statues or what are their functions?

I have full confidence in the officials in this office. If the Deputy will give me the particulars I need, I will give him the information he is looking for.

Very well, I will give the particulars and I hope you will not be as slow about moving in the matter as you have been.
