Vol. 103 No. 8

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Extra Sugar Allowance.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce if it is his intention to grant an extra allowance of sugar to householders for Christmas.

As the Deputy is aware, it has become necessary to reduce the sugar ration in consequence of the stoppage of work at the sugar factories. Unless work at the factories is resumed in the very near future, a further reduction of the ration will be necessary within a couple of weeks. On the other hand, an early resumption might permit of the restoration of the present ration before Christmas, but there is no prospect of a higher ration.
