asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce if he is aware that the development of a bog near Ballivor, County Meath, is about to be undertaken; and if so, if he will take steps to ensure that, in order to obviate flooding of the farms in the locality, the necessary drainage works will be commenced at the points where the present drains enter the River Boyne.
Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Development of County Meath Bog.
I am aware that Bord na Móna proposes to undertake the development of Hill-of-Down Bog near Ballivor, County Meath, for the purpose of mechanical turf production.
The main drainage artery from the bog is the Curris River and it is the intention of the board to carry out such drainage work on this outfall as may be necessary to avoid any intensification of existing flood conditions in the vicinity. The alleviation of such flooding as may already exist would be dependent on the deepening of the Deel and possibly the Boyne rivers but this would be a matter for consideration by the Arterial Drainage Authority.
