Vol. 103 No. 11

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Emergency Tillage Quota.

asked the Minister for Agriculture whether he is aware that the Government of Northern Ireland have decided to reduce the emergency tillage quota by a substantial percentage for the coming year; and if so, if he will consider the desirability of making a similar concession in favour of our farmers, in view of the fact that their lands have been seriously reduced in fertility, for many reasons, during the emergency period.

I understand that the tillage quotas for the Six-County area have been reduced for the coming year. The scope and purpose of the Order in operation in that area appears, however, to differ from that of our tillage Order. I consider the present food situation is such that no reduction in the tillage or wheat quotas for 1947 would be warranted.
