Vol. 104 No. 1

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Compensation to Bacon Curers.

asked the Minister for Agriculture whether it is proposed to pay compensation to owners of small bacon factories who were unable to get supplies of pigs during the emergency periods when farmers were permitted to kill and cure pigs for their own use.

It is not proposed to pay such compensation. As the question may convey the impression that the grant of permission to farmers to kill and cure pigs for their own use was confined to the emergency period, I would like to say that there has never been any restriction on the slaughtering and curing of pigs by farmers for their own use.
