Vol. 104 No. 2

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Acquisition and Division of Galway Lands.

asked the Minister for Lands whether the Land Commission have under consideration the acquisition of Mellett's lands at Ardour, Kilconley, County Galway; and also, another portion of those lands now managed by a Mr. Bleheen.

The Land Commission have under consideration the question of the acquisition of the lands of Ardour, County Galway, held by Christina Mylotte and John H. Bleahan.

asked the Minister for Lands if the Land Commission are taking any steps to acquire the farm of Mr. Fitzpatrick at Newborough, Kilconley (Lewin estate), County Galway.

There are no proceedings in hands for the acquisition of Mr. Fitzpatrick's lands in the townland of Bunagarraun, to which I presume the Deputy is referring, but the case is the subject of inquiry.

asked the Minister for Lands whether the Land Commission have under consideration the acute congestion that still exists on the Lewin and other estates in the area around Kilshavey, Kilconley, County Galway; and if they propose to divide the lands held on temporary lettings and other large tracts of land in that area for the relief of the tenants.

Acute congestion on the Lewin estate at Kilshavey was relieved a number of years ago, but the Land Commission are fully alive to the need for dealing with any outstanding congestion in this and other localities in the congested counties.

Such further action as is feasible, by the acquisition and division of suitable land, will be taken according as circumstances permit.

Is the Minister aware that there is a certain number of holdings there held up by the Land Commission for some time, though they should be divided?

That is quite possible.
