Vol. 104 No. 2

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - County Mayo Lands.

asked the Minister for Lands if he will state if it is the intention of the Irish Land Commission to acquire the lands of Michael Begley, Facefield, Claremorris, County Mayo, before the spring of 1947.

It is unlikely that the lands of Michael Begley at Facefield will be acquired by the Land Commission by the spring of 1947.

asked the Minister for Lands if he will state why the lands of several tenants in the townlands of Maltpool, Barriel and Knockroe, De Clifford estate, County Mayo, have not been vested in them by the Irish Land Commission even though the congestion, etc., in these townlands has been settled for a number of years.

In past years, adequate progress in the vesting of land in tenants and allottees was impossible, by reason of prior staff engagements on land division programmes and, subsequently, on emergency duties. A big improvement has been achieved recently and every effort is being made to expedite this important work of vesting.

asked the Minister for Lands if he is aware that Mrs. Mary Molloy, Kilmacrade, Breaffy, Castlebar, and John Conway, Kilmacrade, Breaffy, Castlebar, County Mayo, are in possession of 40 acres and 25 acres, respectively, of untenanted land; and if he will acquire same for the relief of the congested tenants in this locality.

Proceedings were initiated some months ago for the resumption of Mrs. Molloy's holding, but the Land Commission, having heard the petition of the tenant, decided not to proceed further with the matter.

Proceedings are about to be undertaken for the resumption of the holding of the representatives of Mrs. Conway, deceased.
