Vol. 104 No. 3

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Radio Market-Reports.

asked the Minister for Posts and Telegraphs if he will consider extending the time allocated in the daily news bulletin broadcast from Radio Éireann to reports of the Dublin Cattle Market; and also, if a more detailed account of transactions there will be given.

The report of the Dublin Cattle Market supplied by the Department of Agriculture is given in full in the second news bulletin at 6.30 p.m. on Wednesday. The report is almost invariably broadcast again in the last bulletin but it has sometimes to be given in a condensed form. There is great pressure on the news time available for the latter bulletin, particularly when there is general news of importance as well as proceedings of the Oireachtas to report. In these conditions almost all items have to be given in a very summarised form. I think the Dublin Cattle Market is reasonably well catered for under existing arrangements. We keep in close contact with the Department of Agriculture in these matters.
