Vol. 104 No. 17

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Temporary Postmen's Bonus.

asked the Minister for Posts and Telegraphs if he will state whether payment of the bonus of 7/6 a week awarded to temporary postmen in Dublin, as from the 1st November, 1946, has been withheld from some temporary postmen, including ex-members of the Defence Forces; if so, if he will state the reasons for such withholding; and whether he will cause the bonus to be paid to them in the same way as to others.

The bonus payments to which the Deputy refers are the increases resulting from the scheme for consolidation of Civil Service remuneration. Owing to the large number of officers affected and the amount of accountancy work involved, it has not yet been possible to arrange for payment to all the post office staff concerned, including the personnel referred to by the Deputy.

There is no question of withholding payment from any person eligible for the award.
