Vol. 105 No. 1

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Transition Development Fund.

asked the Minister for Finance if he will state the total amount (i) allocated and (ii) expended, by the 28th February, 1947, from the Transition Development Fund, distinguishing between the various classes of work for which money has been allocated or expended.

The total amount allocated out of the Transition Development Fund at the 28th February, 1947, was £1,482,760 classified as follows, viz., housing, £1,196,360; farm improvements, £143,000; water and sewerage schemes, £140,000; fishery premises, £1,500; and scientific research, £1,900. In addition, it was decided that should expenditure on the rural electrification scheme disclose justification for subsidy in excess of that contemplated by the Electricity (Supply) (Amendment) Act, 1945, the excess shall be met out of the fund for a period of two years.

No payment has yet been made out of the fund, but expenditure between now and the close of the current financial year is expected to reach about £60,000, mainly in respect of housing.

Do I understand that no payment at all has yet been made out of the fund?

No, there will be £60,000 this year.
