Vol. 105 No. 2

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Military Policeman's Pension.

asked the Minister for Defence if he is aware that Exe/422837 Corporal Patrick Mullowney, late 8th Field Company, Military Police, Athlone, made application for a disability pension and that the application was disallowed on the grounds that the disability he suffers from was not contracted while in the forces; if he is further aware that this man met with a serious accident while on duty and, as a result, was, for several months, in hospital and that the civilian doctor who attended him, while in hospital, certifies that his disability is due to injuries received at the time of the accident; and if, in all the circumstances, he will consider the reopening of this man's case, with a view to granting a pension.

I am aware that ex-Corporal Patrick Mullowney made application for a disability pension and that it was refused on the grounds that the disability from which he suffers is not due to any injury attributable to his service in the forces, or to his service in the forces during the emergency period.

I am further aware that Corporal Mullowney sustained an injury while cycling on the 13th October, 1942, but as the Army Pensions Board reported that they were not satisfied on the available evidence that his present disability arose from that injury, I am unable to consider the question of reopening the case with a view to the granting of pension.
