Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Cattle Statistics.

asked the

Minister for Industry and Commerce if he will state, in respect of each county and province, the numbers of milch cows on the 1st June, in each of the years 1933 to 1946, inclusive, classified as to: (a) shorthorn, and (b) other types; and the total in each year for the country as a whole.

Statistics of milch cows classified as "shorthorn" and "other types" were not collected for any of the years 1933 to 1946.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce if he will state, in respect of each county and province, the number of milch cows on farms: (a) supplying milk to creameries, and (b) not supplying milk to creameries on the 1st June, in each of the years 1933 to 1946, inclusive; and the total number in each year for the country as a whole.

The following table shows the numbers of milch cows on farms "supplying milk to creameries" and "not supplying milk to creameries" on 1st June in each of the years 1934, 1935 and 1936 in each county and province and in the country as a whole. Statistics were not collected for any of the other years since 1932.

The total numbers of milch cows in the country as a whole in each year up to 1944 are given in the annual Statistical Abstract and the figures for the years 1945 and 1946 are published in the December, 1946, issue of the Irish Trade Journal and Statistical Bulletin.

Following is the table:
