Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Children's Allowances.

asked the Minister for Social Welfare if he will state: (a) the number of families, and (b) the number of children, currently qualified to receive allowances under the Children's Allowances Acts; the number, in each case, to whom allowances are actually being paid; and the average weekly amount of such payments, during the year 1946.

The number of households receiving allowances under the Children's Allowances Acts at the end of the year 1946, was 140,300 and the number of children in respect of whom these allowances were payable was 615,000. The average weekly amount payable to each household was 5s. 11.5d.
