Vol. 105 No. 9

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Fire-grate and Range Design.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce if he will consider the desirability of setting up a sub-committee of representatives of the Hammond Lane Foundry, Allied Iron Founders (Waterford), Limited, Alliance and Dublin Consumers Gas Company; Electricity Supply Board, Bord na Móna, the coal importers and associated professional bodies, through the Building Research Committee, with a view to investigating the whole future fuel position and its effect on fire-grate and range design, with particular reference to fire-grates for use in working-class dwellings.

A full report on turf as domestic fuel, with particular reference to the design of fire-grates and ranges, was made by the Industrial Research Council in 1942 and was published as a bulletin (No. 2). Copies of this bulletin will be placed in the Oireachtas Library. In the circumstances, I see no need at present for an investigation on the lines suggested by the Deputy.
