Vol. 105 No. 9

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Butter Statistics.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce if he will state: (a) the quantity of creamery butter produced for the 12 months ended 31st March, 1947; (b) the estimated quantity of farmers' butter produced during the same period; (c) the quantity of creamery butter pooled for the purposes of rationing; and (d) the quantity of farmers' butter utilised for rationing purposes.

The quantity of creamery butter produced in the 12 months period ended 31st March, 1947, was 543,041 cwts.

It is not yet possible to estimate the quantity of farmers' butter produced during the same period.

The full quantity of creamery butter produced was pooled and utilised for the purposes of rationing.

Farmers' butter is not rationed though there are certain regulations regarding its purchase and sale. The question of the quantity of such butter utilised for rationing purposes does not, therefore, arise.

Is the position, then, that no quantity of farmers' butter is available for rationing?

That is right.

That is the position?

That was the position last year.
