Vol. 105 No. 13

Written Answers. - Allocation of Maize.

asked the Minister for Agriculture if allocations of the 110,000 tons of maize imported during the past year were made on the basis of 25 per cent. of their 1939 trade to registered maize millers; if he will state why an allocation has been refused to Cornelius Keohane, Western Bridge, Kinsale, who was a registered maize miller at the vital period, ending July, 1939; also, if any other such registered maize millers were refused; and if so, on what grounds.

The answer to the first part of the question is in the affirmative.

An allocation of maize was not made to Mr. Keohane as he did not manufacture any maize meal mixture during the year ended 31st July, 1939. Mr. Keohane's registration in the Register of Maize Millers, kept under the Agricultural Produce (Cereals) Acts, was cancelled on 23rd May, 1936, and was not restored.

Allocations of maize were made to all maize millers who were registered in the Register of Maize Millers on 31st July, 1939, and who manufactured maize meal mixture during the previous year.
