Vol. 105 No. 14

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Grants and Subsidies for Housing.

asked the Minister for Local Government whether it is intended to continue, for a further period, the provisions of the Housing (Financial and Miscellaneous Provisions) Acts, which enable grants to be paid to private persons in rural areas and to public utility societies towards the cost of erecting new houses; and whether he will indicate the steps which will be taken for this purpose.

The matter is under consideration and I hope to make a statement regarding it at an early date.

Mr. Corish

asked the Minister for Local Government if he will state whether he contemplates increasing the proportion of the cost of houses in respect of which, in the appropriate case, subsidy will be provided; and if so, whether he is now in a position to indicate the provisions of the revised scheme.

The difference between the subsidy limits and present housing costs is being narrowed appreciably by means of lump-sum grants payable to local authorities from the Transition Development Fund. It is not proposed in addition to increase the proportion of the cost of houses in respect of which contributions to annual loan charges are made under the Housing (Financial and Miscellaneous Provisions) Act, 1932.
