Vol. 106 No. 1

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Oatmeal Supply in Connemara.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce if he is aware that traders in Connemara cannot sell oatmeal at the existing controlled price and make a profit; that, whether owing to this cause or otherwise, only very limited supplies of oatmeal are finding their way into the area; and if he will inquire into the matter.

I am not aware that the position is as stated by the Deputy. The retail price of oatmeal has been fixed on a basis which allows a reasonable margin of profit to the trade generally.

Supplies of oatmeal are, however, below our normal requirements owing to the poor harvest last year. Efforts which have been made to import oats and oatmeal to make good the deficit in home supplies have met with limited success only.
