Vol. 106 No. 7

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Railway Employees' Benefit Society.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce if he will state whether the friendly society known as the Great Southern Railway Employees' Benefit Society has been wound up; whether it has been struck off the register; whether his Department supervised, and if so, to what extent, the distribution of the assets of the society; whether all the assets have been distributed; and whether a statement will be made available to the subscribers showing the manner in which the distribution of the assets was effected and the costs incurred in the process of distribution.

An Instrument of Dissolution, in conformity with the provisions of the Friendly Societies Acts, was registered in respect of the Great Southern and Western Railway Employees' Benefit Society on the 28th July, 1945, and the society was thereupon removed from the Register of Friendly Societies.

In accordance with the provisions of the Friendly Societies Acts, the appropriation or division of the funds is set out in the Instrument of Dissolution. This instrument is open to public inspection at the office of the Registrar of Friendly Societies.

I have no function or power of intervention in regard to the distribution of the assets of the society or the cost incurred in the process of distribution.
