Vol. 106 No. 8

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Shortage of Drugs.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce if he is aware of the serious position which has arisen owing to the shortage of drugs, brought about by the continuance of the strike in the wholesale drug trade, notwithstanding the intervention of the Labour Court; and if he will state what steps he proposes to take to secure an early resumption of the distribution of drugs, particularly in rural areas.

I am aware of the position regarding the distribution of drugs which has arisen in consequence of the strike in the wholesale drug trade, following on the rejection by the workers concerned of the recommendation of the Labour Court. I am informed that further negotiations are in progress. Meanwhile I understand that the Minister for Health has under active consideration the steps to be taken to ensure that adequate supplies of drugs will be available, particularly in rural areas, should the stoppage continue.
