Vol. 106 No. 14

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Leitrim Land Allottees.

asked the Minister for Lands if he will state: (a) the number of applicants, from County Leitrim, for holdings outside the county; (b) the number of such applications which will be granted; (c) the number of applicants for parcels of land within the county; and (d) the number of such applications which will be granted.

The reply to the first and second parts of the question is that since 1938 some 150 residents in County Leitrim have written to the Land Commission applying for transfer to other areas. Many additional applications have been made verbally to inspectors. It is not possible to say how many of these applications will ultimately be successful.

Information is not available which would permit of precise replies being given to the third and fourth parts of the question. The position generally is that the Land Commission receive numerous applications for allotments throughout the country. These applications mostly relate to definite lands in course of acquisition and they are considered in relation to the lands they specify. The keeping of detailed statistical records of the applications would be laborious and would serve no useful purpose.
