Vol. 107 No. 1

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Military Pension Application.

asked the Minister for Defence if Mr. Patrick McNamara, at present residing at 21304-50th Street, Bayside, New York, applied for a military service pension and medal, and his application was refused consideration because it arrived at the Department some days late; if he is aware that Mr. McNamara fought in the General Post Office in 1916, and was interned in Knutsford and Frongoch gaols; and if he will take immediate steps to have amending legislation introduced to permit of the award of pensions and medals to Mr. McNamara and others similarly treated, who, because of their absence from this country, failed to submit applications before the appropriate date.

Mr. Patrick McNamara, 21304-50th Street, Bayside, New York, applied for a pension under the Military Service Pensions Act, 1934, but as his application was made after the statutory time limit for the making of applications, his claim could not be considered. It is not proposed to extend the date for making application under the Military Service Pensions Act, 1934.

Mr. McNamara's application for a medal was made after the closing date, but the question of extending the time for applying for service medals is at present under consideration.
