Vol. 108 No. 2

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Scarcity of Feeding Stuffs.

asked the Minister for Agriculture whether he is aware that the scarcity of imported feeding stuffs is peculiarly acute in County Leitrim, with consequent serious reduction in the pig population; and whether, in view of the fact that the farmers in that poor and congested area have always depended for a livelihood on the raising of pigs, he will arrange for a higher allocation of the necessary feeding stuffs to County Leitrim.

I am aware of the general shortage of feeding stuffs in County Leitrim and other parts of the country. Imports of feeding stuffs are being distributed as equitably as possible throughout the country, but in view of the limited supplies available, it would not be practicable to make special allocations to particular areas.
