Vol. 108 No. 5

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Advice by Central Bank.

asked the Minister for Finance if he will state if the Central Bank have at any time, or from time to time, advised him, in accordance with Section 6 of the Central Bank Act, 1942, as to any steps which the board deem appropriate and advisable towards safeguarding the integrity of the currency and the control of credit; if he has requested the governor or the board to consult and advise with him in regard to the foregoing matters; and if so, if he will state what steps were advised and taken as a result of such consultation or otherwise.

asked the Minister for Finance if he will state if the Governor or Board of the Central Bank have advised him or if he has requested advice from the governor or board as to the real value of sterling, in terms of Irish money, in any of the years 1939 to 1947.

I propose to take questions Nos. 12 and 13 together.

Disclosure of information regarding discussions between the Minister for Finance and the Central Bank would be prejudicial to the maintenance of useful relations between them. Accordingly, I regret that I am unable to furnish the information requested.
