Vol. 108 No. 7

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Residence Permit.

asked the Minister for Justice if a permit to reside in Ireland was granted to a Mr. Charles Peczenick, of London, who has acquired land in Dublin for the purpose of erecting flats; if so, if he will state the nationality of the said Charles Peczenick; and also, whether it is the policy of the Government to allow aliens to acquire land for this purpose.

Mr. Boland

Permission to reside in this country has not been granted to any person of the name referred to by the Deputy.

Will you clear him out if you get the information? I will supply you with information, unless Mr. Sweeney desires to make representation to the Minister's Department.

I understand the Deputy has mentioned a member of the Bar——

Yes, Sir, in connection with Sachell.

The Deputy must keep silent while the Chair is speaking.

He only mentioned that when he was in his air-raid shelter.

The Deputy must realise that he is not entitled under privilege in this House to introduce the names of citizens who have no means of defence. If he persists in it, the Chair will have to take action. It is utterly irresponsible.

On a point of order. If a citizen of this State chooses to appear in ambiguous circumstances in the company of an undesirable alien, are members of this House to be debarred from inquiring as to the circumstances in which this undesirable alien acted and the companions with whom he was and whose names were published in the public Press?

That is not the question asked.

That is not the question put by Deputy Flanagan.

I never heard of any such ruling in this House.
