Vol. 108 No. 7

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Telephone Facilities (County Meath).

asked the Minister for Posts and Telegraphs if he will state the date on which the residents of Laytown, County Meath, applied to his Department for the provision of a public telephone; the date on which an application for telephone facilities at the Butlin Camp, Mosney, Laytown, was received, and the date on which the installation was completed; and if he will state, in detail, the reasons why the application of the residents, which ante-dated Mosney Camp application by some months, has, so far, failed to merit attention.

There is no record of an application from the residents of Laytown, County Meath, for the provision of a public telephone. There is already a public telephone call office in Laytown Post Office.

The provision of service for all waiting applicants at Laytown, was authorised in November, 1946, but, owing to the withdrawal of engineering staff from constructional work to deal with storm damage repairs, the work of providing the new lines at Laytown had to be postponed until normal conditions were restored.

Application was made for the provision of telephone service at Mosney, Laytown (now Butlin's Irish and Continental Holidays, Limited) in August, 1946, and service was provided on 5th July, 1947.

It is anticipated that service for the remaining applicants at Laytown will be provided within four weeks.
