Vol. 108 No. 7

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Sale of Turf in Tralee.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce if he is aware that the three principal fuel merchants in Tralee are now purchasing supplies of turf for sale to customers in large lots only; that, consequently, there is practically no supply available for ordinary purchasers who can afford to buy only a bag at a time; and whether, as this practice is likely to cause serious hardship in the coming months, he will have the matter investigated, with a view to having it remedied.

The turf position in Tralee has been under observation for some time past arising out of a demand made by certain merchants for permission to charge retail prices which were considered excessive. Arrangements have been made with other merchants which should ensure that small purchasers need have no difficulty in obtaining their requirements at a reasonable price.
