Vol. 108 No. 9

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Emigrants.

asked the Minister for External Affairs if he will state, in respect of each of the months from January to October, 1947, the number of persons, distinguishing between men and women, who emigrated to Great Britain and Northern Ireland, for the purpose of taking up employment.

With the permission of the Ceann Comhairle, a tabular statement of the figures will be circulated with the Official Report.

As I pointed out frequently before, the figures merely show the number of passports or travel permits issued to persons travelling to take up employment, temporarily or otherwise, and are, therefore, not a guide as to the number of people emigrating in the ordinary sense.

Following is the statement:—

STATEMENT showing the numbers of Passports or Travel Permits issued to Males and Females proceeding to Great Britain or the Six North-Eastern Counties for the apparent purpose of taking up employment.
