Vol. 108 No. 15

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Ship Inspectors' Wages.

asked the Minister for Agriculture if he will state the present daily rates of wages paid to temporary ships inspectors employed at North Wall, Dublin; how this rate compares with that paid to the permanent staff; further, whether he is prepared to grant an increase to the temporary staff on their present inadequate rate of pay.

The rate of wages paid to temporary ship inspectors at the North Wall, Dublin, who are employed for less than six days in a normal working week is 10/- a day plus emergency bonus of 2/8 a day, if married, and 2/2 a day if unmarried, subject to a maximum weekly rate of emergency bonus for part-time employees of 12/6 if married, and 10/6 if unmarried. If the inspectors are employed continuously for a normal week of six days, emergency bonus of 15/- a week for married men and 13/- a week for unmarried men is payable. The rate of pay for the quasi-permanent ship inspectors at the North Wall ranges from 85/6 to 96/- a week.

I am examining the question of the pay of the temporary ship inspectors further.
