Vol. 110 No. 3

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Cattle Exports.

asked the Minister for Agriculture if the licences he proposes to issue for the export of cattle to the Continent during 1948-49 will permit of the export of as many cattle as in 1947-48.

The number of fat cattle that may be allocated for export to continental countries in the 1948-49 season has not yet been determined. A decision will be announced as soon as possible, and in any event in time to permit of suitable transport arrangements being made by any countries to which quotas may be granted.

When will the Minister be in a position to make a statement on this matter? There are people at the moment purchasing cattle to feed to meet this trade, and they are the people for whom I want to get the information.

A statement will be made as soon as it is possible to make it, due regard being had to the possibilities of the British market and matters arising therefrom. The Deputy may rest assured no time will be lost in bringing such inquiries as may be necessary to a conclusion.
