Vol. 110 No. 3

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Agricultural Exports and Prices.

asked the Minister for Agriculture if it is the intention of the Government to give the agricultural producer a long-term guarantee that remunerative prices based on the cost of efficient production will be paid for the chief products of agriculture, including milk, butter, eggs, bacon-pigs, barley, wheat and sugar-beet.

I have already announced a long-term guarantee by the Government in regard to the price of wheat. I could not at this stage undertake to recommend a similar guarantee in respect of commodities the cost of production of which will depend to some extent on the availability and price of imported materials. If, however, the Deputy has any suggestions to offer in their regard, I shall be very glad to consider them.
