Vol. 110 No. 3

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Income-tax Exemption.

asked the Minister for Finance if it is intended to abolish or revise the exemption from income-tax which members of the Oireachtas enjoy in respect of their Parliamentary allowances.

The exemption from income-tax of the allowances payable to members of the Oireachtas is provided for by the Oireachtas (Allowances to Members) Act, 1938, and cannot be abolished or amended without legislation. The Government has not yet had an opportunity of fully considering this matter, but it will be brought under review when the general budgetary arrangements are being made.
