The application from the Galway County Council was for a grant of 50 per cent. of the cost of repairing Bunowen Pier. The estimate for the work submitted by the council in January, 1943, was £4,500, but the cost would now be considerably more. The responsible Departments are not satisfied that the utility of the pier is commensurate with the proposed expenditure and, accordingly, I am not in a position to recommend a grant.
