Vol. 110 No. 3

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Emergency Service Medals.

asked the Minister for Defence if he is in a position to state when it is proposed to issue emergency service medals to former members of the auxiliary defence services.

asked the Minister for Defence if he will state the reasons for the delay in issuing medals to those who served in the L.D.F. during the emergency period.

I propose to take questions Nos. 43 and 44 together. I regret that I am not yet in a position to state when the emergency service medals will be available. The delay in the issue is due to the difficulty in obtaining the necessary dies. For work of this nature, there has been an extremely heavy demand since the recent war. The dies for one of the medals are, however, now available and arrangements for the manufacture of that medal, that is, the L.D.F. medal, are being put in hand.
