Vol. 110 No. 3

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Cement Supplies.

Mr. Byrne

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce if he is aware that as a result of the existing scarcity of cement for repair work in Dublin, a number of contractors engaged in this work cannot secure supplies; and if so, whether he will arrange to have supplies imported to meet the present shortage.

I am aware that persons engaged in repair work have experienced difficulty in securing all the cement they wish to purchase. Although the factories of Cement Limited are working to full capacity, the present demand for cement exceeds the amount that can be made available. Several consignments of cement have already been imported from abroad, and efforts are being made to obtain further supplies by importation.
