Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Batch Bread Subsidy.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce if he will state the total amount paid, or due for payment, in respect of the subsidy on batch bread in each of the years 1946 and 1947.

During the calendar year ended 1946 the total sum paid in respect of bread subsidy was £157,175 14s. 1d., and in 1947 £198,563 1s. 0d. It is estimated that a further £20,000 will fall to be paid in respect of claims up to the 1st November, 1947, on which date the bread subsidy scheme was discontinued. An estimated sum of £45,000 for the purpose of making retrospective to the 1st November, 1947, the reduction in the millers' price of flour, which operated from the 22nd February, 1948, will also fall to be paid to licensed bakers in respect of flour used for baking bread.
