Vol. 110 No. 3

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Supplies of Anthracite.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce if he is aware of the very unsatisfactory amount and inferior quality of anthracite issued for use of heat storage cookers, and whether, in view of the improved coal position, he can now say that supplies of anthracite in future will be more satisfactory.

I am aware that anthracite for thermal storage cookers, in common with anthracite supplies generally, has been unsatisfactory in regard to both quality and quantity. As a result of slightly improved supplies of anthracite which have become available recently I am, as the Deputy will have seen from a recent Press announcement, now arranging for supplies to persons whose applications for permits to purchase anthracite had hitherto been debarred completely from consideration. The question of improving the supplies to existing permit holders is being examined.
